The howto speaks about older problems; in these days, there is a 2.6-related
kernel problem (check messages about "2.6 stops at NET: Registered protocol
family"; the point is different, but the bug is possibly the same). If you
can compile a 2.4 Uml kernel which does not show your problem, then try using
the 2.6.0-test9 (you can go until 2.6.0, but not to 2.6.1) linux vanilla
kernel with uml-patch-2.6.0-test9. Remember that modules do not work with
that version of the patch. If using the -test9 patch solves your problem,
then probably your one and the other one are the same one.
If you are able to run the kernel under gdb after putting a breakpoint onto
panic, and then to type "bt" and post the output to this (and to the
uml-devel list), then we'll be able to check what is happening.
