The only issue is getting SKAS into host's kernel. Most distros shouldn't be
an issue, but I use redhat 9 on the host and the skas patch won't apply to
redhat's kernels (they're too different). So I am just running a stock+skas
kernel on the host instead of redhat's kernels. But that's about it.

Depends on how you're getting started. If you're getting installed system FS
images from someone else (like those linked to from the uml web pages and on
this list), then the UML's fs type has been determined for you already. If
you're building the UML image, it can be any filesystem you want as long as
the uml kernel has support for it and any needed userland programs (like
fsck) are in the uml's filesystem image.
