You certainly can, and no issues that I am aware of. For example, I tend to
use Mandrake as my host (and most of my UML filesystems), but I have also setup
UML filesystems based on Core Linux. I have not tried Debian yet, but I don't
think there are any issues.
I would try to stick with a RPM-based system for the host, however,
particularly if you will be creating your own UML filesystems, but that's just
me :-)
