No need to respond to my query - I have resolved it ...
I have just found Jeff Dike's patch of Oct 21 2003 that updates UML to
2.6.0-test8. A copy of his LKML posting with the details is available
at:
http://www.ussg.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0310.2/1232.html
I have applied the tarball patch to a current (as of a few hours ago)
2.6 kernel, and now it builds and boots.
Excellent. Thank-you, Jeff. There was alot of work in that patch.
Earlier today, I had independently stumbled on Jeff's bkbits repository
for UML work at:
http://jdike.stearns.org:5000/uml-2.5
and had various problems. I've no idea yet whether the problems I had
were "between keyboard and chair", or more substantive. I will try this
bkbits repository again, now that I have reason to believe that it
works. When I first stumbled on it earlier today, I had no clue as to
whether Jeff intended this bkbits to be holding published, working
software, or internal work in progress.
