If you're not worried about upgradability, here's some recommendations:

Getting a motherboard with an integrated sound, video, and network card
has some advantages.

1) Cards won't come loose in shipping
2) lower power requirements (usually)
3) Less crud in the case means lower case temperatures.

With the open sourcing if the Intel video drivers (Thanks, Keith
Packard), I'd say getting a motherboard with an integrated Intel video
945 or similar chipset would be a good, safe bet for "out of the box"
functionality.

As well, if you want trouble-free operation, DON'T go cheap on the power
supply. If your power supply has ripple, or fluctuates, you'll have all
kinds of weird problems, intermittant failures, and just general
nastyness. I user Enermax powersupplys, and have always been very happy
with them. But a $20 powersupply's going to be exactly that: a $20
powersupply. and it WILL cause you no end of grief.
