I have a Ubuntu desktop system and am trying to run a Xensource live demo
CD. I burnt the iso image on an XP machine using cdburnerxp. It would seem
that grub can't see the CD :

grub> configfile /dev/rdc

Error 12: invalid device requested.

But in a terminal window ls -la /dev/fdc gives the iso file name and
permissions

any ideas please?

Thanks,

Trevor.

thats not the appropriate list for such a question, this list is about
edubuntu development/testing, try the ubuntu-users mailing list for
ubuntu support :)

Hi

I'm going to be setting up LTSP on Dapper but I don't want the
Edubuntu desktop, etc. Should I follow the instructions here
(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ThinClientHowto), which haven't
been updated since Breezy, or is there an easier way?

I guesed this would be the most reliable place to ask :)

Thank you!
Steve

The Xubuntu alternate CD contains a LTSP boot option that may be closer
to what you want, but it's an Xfce not a Gnome desktop that you end up with.

it once was written as easy as the page pointed below, but many
community additions made it very complicated for the common user to
read. but since i think there is valuable info on it, i rather created
the page below than deleting stuff from the older thin client howto
page ... it should probably be linked from there.

right, it is :)

I too, would like to run LTSP on Dapper without the Edubuntu Desktop. I like the quick install guide. I am confused about DHCP. My DSL modem/router handles dhcp upstream on the network before getting to the Dapper box. I have two ethernet ports, eth1 for upstream and eth0 available for LTSP on the Dapper box. Does LTSP handle dhcp only for eth0? Does this cause no conflict with the router dhcp upstream connected to eth1? I prefer not to mess with the router config since it it provided by my ISP. I am  a recent convert  so here's hoping my questions are clear. Thanks much for the learning experience.
