Re: Hi and a suggestion: msg#00051

Subject: Re: Hi and a suggestion
Hi everybody,

I have been lurking on this mailing list for a couple of days now, but have yet to announce myself. I also work in web design and am interested in helping out on the project where I can.

I have some familiarity with groupware sites, and I think this was a good suggestion. Where I work, we fiddled with several open source projects before deciding that Basecamp from 37signals was the way to go. Here is a link:

http://www.basecamphq.com

It is not an open source project (the framework used to create it is), but they do allow a free level that might fit the needs of this group. We found Basecamp to have a nice compromise between functionality in simplicity that the open source groupware apps didnt. The main components of Basecamp that we use quite frequently are:

1. Message Board
2. To Do Lists
3. Milestones

This is pretty straight forward, and they don't let the app get too much more confusing than that. For more information on open source alternatives, try http://www.opensourcecms.com/ which has demos of a few.

There would be a little legwork in setting up logins and everything, but my vote is that its worth it. Does anyone else have any thoughts on this?

~Matt

Hi :)
i am stanimir 'kori' djevelekov, from Bulgaria, and i mainly do web

for the future site of the art team, may i suggest that instead of a
wiki we use some sort of groupware? it seems more appropriate to me.
