Thanks for your help. I've been
brought up on MS. Just tired of their attempts at dominating the pc world. I did
try to download and install the desk top version on the server but with ms home
server I am unable to get into anything as the "trial version" has expired.
Through out the years I've needed
help on other ms products, I have never gotten this much help from ms. This is
great!!! I hope to someday be able to return the favors!!

Hi Bob,
I'm gonna
take a stab here...but it sounds like you're trying to install the 64bit
edition on a 32bit PC. That's what
> "this kernel requires an x86-64 cpu, but only
detected an i686 cpu. unable to boot please use a kernel appropriate for
your cpu"
says to me.
Were I you, I'd confirm that the
processor on the 'server' is either 32 bit or 64 bit and move towards
installing the appropriate Ubuntu server edition both available from
[1].

Another
thought. Unless you're Linux shell-savvy, you might want to install the
Ubuntu desktop version and then install your server and file sharing
applications.
