Honestly, if its just a disk drive, there shouldn't be any issues at all with hardware compatibility. Most manufacturers don't officially 'support' linux, so they'll never say so on their sites (because they dont want to answer a bunch of linux-related questions) but in general they should work just fine. > > I am looking for a SATA burner and I am especially interested in this > NEC modell > > NEC Optiarc AD-7200S DVD-+R/-+RW SATA > (it is the only white modell available at my local vendor - and it is a > present for my brother who would prefer a white drive) > > Other modells available inlclude (but don't concentrate on this modells > I hope that out of your answers I will be able to conlude which brand is > suited for Linux) > LG GH-22NS30 DVD-+R/-+RW SATA > > LG GH-22NS50 DVD-+R/-+RW SATA > > And some IDE-modells > NEC Optiarc AD-7203A, bulk, schwarz DVD-+R/-+RW IDE > > LG GH-22NP20 DVD-+R/-+RW IDE > LG GH-22LP20, LightScribe DVD-+R/-+RW IDE > Links to the products would have been more helpful than model numbers, but after searching on newegg, I discovered that the last 2 models on your list are brothers to the ones I have in my own PC. They are basically both IDE CD-RW DVD-ROM/RAM readers/burners (ie. super-multi-drives), but one has lightscribe as well. My lightscribe drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136147 My regular drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136144 They both work great for me. one of them is a bit old (3 years or so) but it still works just as well as the newer one (with the lightscribe). I always go with LG drives when I can, due to my personal experiences that they are very durable, long-lasting, and all-round good quality... That said, I don't imagine you'd have any issues with NEC either, though I've only ever seen monitors by them...
