Computer architectures can be either 64-bit or 32-bit. A 64-bit
architecture will be able to run 32-bit operating systems and software,
but 32-bit architectures are not able to run 64-bit operating systems or
software.

It sounds like you are trying to install the 64-bit version of Ubuntu on
32-bit architecture. That won't work, which is why you get the error.
You need the 32-bit version.

See: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/download-server

Make sure you tick the "32bit version" option under "Computer
Architecture."
