Installation problem question

Regarding installing linux on a Toshiba 4015cdt….I am trying to do the same thing (it’s my wife’s old laptop and I’d like to repurpose it). I am not an IT guy or anything but am pretty adept at getting things figured out on a pc…my question is that when I try to install ubunto 9.04 I get the message:   [    0.000000] ACPI: no DMI BIOS year, acpi-force is required to enable ACPI [    7.224683] IO ACPI resources could not be allocated.   Do you know what I should be doing to fix this?   Thank you for your time and thanks for putting info up on the web for all to learn from,   Ajm     Anthony J. Ubuntu 8.04 LTS have Black screen problem

Dear friends,                    I am facing so many time black screen problem in ubuntu 8.04 LTS . The problem is that when every i open any software and other application than that application and software get black screen after running software in few minutes . I searched  on google and other way but not getting solution . I send you attechment file also. when i open firefox and other software than screen look like that attechment. and few minutes wait or restart pc than the problem solve . But this is not a solution . What we do now.
