If you have a working Ubuntu set up on your laptop already, then skip all that.
It doesn't apply to you.
Start at the 'Setup VMWare' section.

As a matter of fact, since he indicates it works ok in VMWare, you
might also consider trying VirtualBox instead.
There's lot of info floating around on either option - a quick Google
should get you there.
Here's a guide I just found with Google, I didn't verify it.
