Hi All,

I been thinking of getting an older white 15" macbook for my main machine. I'm looking at a 2.0ghz C2D model, prob about from late 2006-2007.

So I was wondering if any of you have been running Ubuntu on a macbook. Are there any compatibility issues? I'd like to do some simple audio work (non-RT) also; any problems with that? I seem to remember something about Jack not working right...

Would the wifi and graphics work? I don't mind using restricted drivers, as long as they are reliable.

Thanks for any comments!

ahoy Chris,

i have a similar MacBook (13" 2.0 GHz Core Duo 2 GB RAM June 2006).  after i realized the importance of free software/culture/etc. and found myself wanting to run Linux again, the problem was that a MacBook was my computer.  i can and am doing work on it (USB Hardy 8.04), however it has been a struggle at points.  not sure if this is due to Apple or what, but i would recommend something else.  i have spent lots of time fighting things with this laptop, that others using more open/standard computers have not seem to.

i can recommend heartily the Edirol FA-66 FireWire audio interface.  worked great with Mac OS 10.4/Logic, and with FLOSS audio software.

peace, w
