Hi Jacob,

do you have installed the libdvdcss2 package ? Without it, it's 
impossible to read commercial DVD, because they are copy protected. This 
lib allow to read the protected data of the DVD.

The best software to read DVD are VLC and Mplayer, but Totem works too.
