Just to add to Tom's post, I believe it is recommended that when you update Ubuntu to Ubuntu Studio, you should only download the packages: ubuntustudio-audio ubuntustudio-audio-plugins ubuntustudio-graphics ubuntustudio-video Of course, you can also choose to only add the software suites that you think you'll be using.
