Re: Re: Australian tv grabber: msg#00159

Subject: Re: Re: Australian tv grabber
Hi Elliot,

if, *IF*, the data you obtain is legal, I'd be happy to slap together a
grabber for your site (I currently maintain the tv_grab_au, which I
never get around to making it 100% so it hasn made it into an offical
release yet).

Ive been in close contact with the major tv guide suppliers, and
currently its the TV stations here who impose the restrictions, and
until they (the stations) budge a little, no one in Australia can have a
legal source of data.

Only one company here has been able to secure an agreement to
redistribute their data, and thats d1.com.au, I have no idea how they
did it, but they did and good on 'em for doing so, they have been kind
enough to allow Aussie xmltv users to obtain their data directly from
their database server, not just their customers who brought their Home
Media Center product.

Until we have something better (which i dont see happening for a long
time), i think Aussie xmltv users should stick with D1;s legal source.

Regards,

Rohan M.

PS: Seriously dude - be careful with your site if your just scraping the
data from other sites. I can assure you that the legal teams for most
major tv guide sites are very active at the moment and will not hesitate
to drag you through the courts just to prove their point. Just ask the
OzTivo guys or ask me to see the legal letters from companies like
yahoo.com.au or ebroadcast.com.au.
Be careful dude.
