I assumed that this question would have been answered previously, but I
could find no definitive commentary in the archives (I searched for
"channel numbers" and similar strings).
Anyway, furious_tv currently works perfectly fine with
tv_grab_na-generated listings by guessing channel numbers for stations
using a heuristic to guess a good channel number that is hidden within
the display-name elements.
However, I recently received a bug report from a tv_grab_es user. The
problem appears to be that instead of storing the channel number in the
display-name element, the tv_grab_es grabber hides the channel number in
the channel id attribute.
So where should I look for the channel number? In the tv_grab_na channel
id attributes, there are TWO numbers in each id (the actual number and
the 2 in "zap2it").
Is there any standard way of figuring out the channel number? It seems
crazy to have to guess the encoding of attributes and elements to find
the channel number. For an automatic recording program, the channel
number is one of the most important pieces of information, so why is
there no standard way of storing the channel number (like, say, another
element or attribute)?
