I just recently released version 1.0 of ftv_gnome, a GNOME front end to
a personal video recorder (PVR) back end that parses XMLTV. The software
is open source and can be found at http://furioustv.sourceforge.net .
Unlike many other projects that use XMLTV listings to automatically
record programs using TV cards and appropriate software, furious_tv does
not require an SQL server. In addition to this, ftv_gnome does not
require a web server or any of the various scripting languages and all
of their dependencies--instead it uses a familiar GNOME interface. To
top it off, all of the software is written in C and designed for
performance.
I'm not trying to say that furious_tv and ftv_gnome make a better
solution than the other PVRs out there, I just want to point out that
ftv_gnome uses technologies many people are already familiar with and is
simple to setup.
My goal here was an optimized, GNOME-styled version of WebVCR+ since I
got tired of Apache, PHP, and MySQL breaking under Debian =). Any
feedback would be appreciated.
