I have checked in a fix for this with revision 471299. So now you can
get past this if you build XmlBeans from source (for instructions on how
to do that, see
http://xmlbeans.apache.org/sourceAndBinaries/index.html).

Alternatively, you can wait for the next release of XMLBeans, and use
the workaround that you mentioned in the meantime.

It seems to be difficult to map this schema restriction to valid java
code. 

My work around at the moment is to compile with scomp without compiling
with javac. After that I add the required methods and try to remember
not to use the "prohibited" getters and setters later. 

But the required interaction between scomp and javac is a problem for
automated builds (nightly builds) :/
