Hi Chiba Developers,

I work for the Devon Portal Project, which is a partnership project of the local government authorities in Devon, UK.

We are using Chiba here for XForms in combination with eXist. Our use of Chiba is of the non-scripted version as our accessibility standards prevent us from using Ajax or lots of _javascript_ for the public facing websites.

There are some things in Chiba that we need, that dont seem to be quite ready yet?!? but I have permission from my employers to work on these areas and contribute them back to the Chiba project in good open source style :-)

Would it be possible to contribute towards the Chiba project? I may need some guidance with some of these issues (where to start hacking...), but im a half decent Java and XSLT developer (I am also a developer on the eXist Open Source XML Native Database project for similar reasons).

We need and would like to contribute to Chiba -

1) Better xs:date and xs:dateTime bound input controls in non-scripted mode. e.g. So instead of just a html input box for a date control we would like to see 3 drop down boxes, one for the day, one for the month and one for the year and the composite of these controls would give you an xs:date. I imagine some changes to the form-controls.xsl and the java xform model somewhere? Not to sure on the Java side, where to retreive these 3 form values and combine them into an xs:date?

2) Strict adherance to the mediatype attribute on xforms:upload controls. At present this doesnt seem to have been implemented? Not sure of the best way to do this? as some sort of validation rule in the java model of the xform perhaps?

3) In xforms:bind the type attribute does not recognise "xs:base64Binary" whilst it does recognise "xs:string", "xs:integer" etc. it does however recognise "base64Binary" so ideally that xs type needs adding?

4) I think I read somewhere that in non-scripted mode, messages do not work? So you dont know why the form wasnt able to submit - i.e. this field is empty, or sumbission failed due to validation of the value of a field. If this is the case, we would like to add this, again guidance would be appreciated.

5) Tree control, we have some existing complex html form controls that make use of a _javascript_ tree, we would like to add some sort of Tree control functionality to Chiba's xforms implementation.
