Hi *,
it's done. The new versions are out.
The new Core addresses a lot of bugs and XForms 1.0 Second Edition
issues. Most of these have been fixed (Note: the behaviour of some of
your forms might change through this). Besides that the validation
engine has been refactored and now runs about 100% faster. Many new
unittests have been written to ensure proper behaviour (now about 400).
But maybe much more exciting is the new Chiba Web 2 release. Through the
new AJAX interface Chiba now provides a truly interactive server-side
XForms implementation with direct feedback for the user.
Firefox/Mozilla, IE6 and Safari 2 will be supported as clients without
the need for special plugins. The 'old', non-scripted mode will be
further available in cases javascript is deactivated or blocked. Chiba
will automatically choose the 'mode of operation' when a form is loaded.
The promised XForms sample app couldn't be finished in time in every
detail but we'll add that to the final release.
Uli + me are considering this release a major step forward (as the
release number implies ;) but there still will be issues and we would
appreciate your feedback and help in making it ready for production.
Happy days to those celebrating Christmas and the best wishes for the
new year. Thanks to all that helped this year to move Chiba forward.
Joern
