How to read and update instance data

Hi,

I need to update a form with the results of a database call (which
requires some of the data in the form as parameters).

Currently we're using a customized trigger which we're detecting
in ServletAdapter (both in buildUI and in handleRequest).

What I'd like to do is:

1. Get an updated XML instance as a DOM representing the current state of
   the form
2. Extract a few values from the DOM
3. Get ChibaBean to accept the revised instance, populating new
   repeated elements as necessary.

Is there a way to do 1 and 3 from within ServletAdapter?
