I have literally mortgaged my house to develop a
business and product dependent on Saxon. Although I still have no income, if
$500 (I believe that is the SA price) would assure the functional availability
of Saxon, I'd gladly pay it. I regret saying this as it makes bare the pressure
on both of us. Even worse, I'm offering a payoff for backward compatibility, not
advanced performance and functionality. This is the ugly side of software that I
believe we all loathe.

I'm flattered and occasionally a little aghast at the
reliance people place on Saxon, which would make most project managers I
know go apoplectic!
Clearly $500 doesn't buy you any guarantees, but it does
subtly change the nature of the relationship. I try to respect all my users, but
it's harder to tell those who are paying that I think they are
wrong.
