I've played some with refdb-0.9.5 because we'll use it for the new
Web-based publication list of my research group.
I do all of my in- and exports in risx.
Here's a small list of issues that I ran into (they may be
misunderstandings or bugs):
1. UNPB entries lack the title for risx and docbook (XML and SGML)
output. BibTeX, RIS, TEI and plain text have it.
2. The database appears to store only one URL, although the risx DTD
and the RIS specification allow any number of them. I would like a
"role" attribute for it :-).
3. The risx DTD allows a role attribute with the authors (which I'd
like to use to distinguish authors from editors):
(a) This is not documented in the risx documentation.
(b) They are apparently always omitted in risx and docbook output.
(c) For CONF and BOOK entries, risx export omits authors if they
have a role attribute.
Some RIS usage questions:
1. Where does one put "to appear", etc.?
2. Where does one put information relevant to a conference (dates,
place)?
3. Where does one put the nature of an UNPB?
4. Where do special-issue titles go?
5. How to distinguish book chapters from articles in conference proceedings?
6. Where does one put the type of a report or a thesis?
I use userdef's and misc's for all of these purposes (according to my
own conventions), except for 6. for which I abuse the set title.
Any better ideas?
Thanks for a great piece of work!
Justus
