After the recommended update from TL2004 to TL2005 using the i-

BTW, the error message I get when trying to run XeTeX (or XLaTeX) from TeXShop is the following:

This is XeTeX, Version 3.141592-2.2-0.94 (Web2C 7.5.3)
---! /Users/stefano/Library/texmf/web2c/xelatex.fmt doesn't match xetex.pool
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)

I notice that this is an old release of XeTeX (see the version number); you should update your i-Package to the latest release, especially if using TL2005. Perhaps you already did so; in that case, maybe you have an old version somewhere on your system outside of the TeX installation, which survived the update/reinstall process and is being found instead of the new one.

That was it! Locate found an old version of XeTeX installed by fink in /sw/bin which wasn't removed by the uninstall procedure. How stupid of me.
However, I can't get XeTeX to work yet. If I try to compile one of the sample documents from TeXShop I get the following in the TeXShop console:

This is XeTeX, Version 3.141592-2.2-0.98 (Web2C 7.5.3)
entering extended mode
(./font-features.tex [1] )
Output written on font-features.pdf (1 page).
Transcript written on font-features.log.

but no .pdf file is generated and no error messages are reported in the .log file. If I try directly from the command line I get the following:

thrasymachus:~/Desktop/XeTeX-doc/Samples stefano$ xetex font-features.tex
This is XeTeX, Version 3.141592-2.2-0.98 (Web2C 7.5.3)
entering extended mode
(./font-features.tex [1] )
kCGErrorFailure : can't find font object for font id.
Output written on font-features.pdf (1 page).
Transcript written on font-features.log.

I looked into the documentation file, but couldn't find anything.

Best,

Stefano
