BBEdit extensions for teTeX: msg#00511

tex.macosx

Subject: BBEdit extensions for teTeX

I have updated my set of BBEdit plug-ins and Apple scripts. The plug-ins work with BBEdit Lite 6.x and
BBEdit 7.x. Since the plug-ins won't work with BBEdit 8.x I have converted each plug-in to an Apple
script. The Apple scripts work with BBEdit 7.x or later but not with BEdit Lite.

Both the plug-ins and the Apple scripts run TeX programs in a Terminal window, allowing the user to
interact with TeX when an error is reported. Typing an 'e' at a TeX '?' prompt automatically takes you to
the appropriate line in the source file.

With the plug-ins or Apple scripts the user can run most TeX programs from BBEdit Lite or BBEdit.
Source to dvi synchronization is implemented for both xdvi and MacDviX and source to PDF
synchronization is implemented for TeXniscope 0.3 and iTeXMac. Either MacDviX or xdvi can be called
to preview dvi files and either MacGhostView or gv can be called to preview Postscript files. No
"behind the scenes" conversion to PDF is necessary to view dvi and Postscript files.

MacDviX and xdvi can be easily configured to support dvi to source synchronization and TeXniscope 0.3
can be easily configured to support PDF to source synchronization with BBEdit Lite or BBEdit.

These plug-ins and Apple scripts are purposely kept relatively simple. There is no attempt to give BBEdit
or BBEdit Lite the functionality of programs like TeXShop or iTeXMac. The plug-ins and scripts are
intended for users who are comfortable with running TeX from the Terminal while using BBEdit or
BBEdit Lite as a text editor.

The plug-ins and Apple scripts can be downloaded from
