Joe,

this sarcastical, the person (not the arguments Alain is writing about) attacking answer does not fit into this extremely positive list - for my opinion.

I'm sorry it is taken that way. I was simply trying to reassert the opinions of others who have written code, and actually worked these problems, that there is a big difference between believing the problem can be solved (or as Alain stated, had been solved), and actually doing it. If the problem is solved, then he should prove it by programming it. Relying on others to prove his assertion is not going to result in a solution. It is an unfair burden on them.

Further, this is actually the Mac-TeX list. I'm lost as to how this discussion as it has digressed is still related to TeX. Such an implementation would not need to be tied to TeX, and no such constrain should be proposed at the beginning of such an undertaking. A practical problem-solving approach should be undertaken by Alain to evaluate the validity of his hypothesis. This includes evaluation of appropriate languages, incl XML etc., exist and figuring out which one/s to use.

Again, I'm sorry that my pithy statement has been perceived as sarcastic. It was meant to be pointed, not sarcastic. Sarcasm, or the lack thereof, is extremely difficult to convey or interpret in in email.

Joe
