What is the correct way to make the path under OS10.3?

First we need to work out what shell you're using. Apple switched from tcsh to bash in the move to 10.3 so you could have either, depending.

Type 'echo %SHELL' in your terminal.

If it says "/bin/bash" then create a text file in your home directory called ".bash_profile" and add the line like

export PATH=${PATH}:/usr/X11R6/bin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/local/sbin:~/bin:/sw/ bin

with all of the places you want to add.

Hi Will

Thanks for your time.

What I have is bash. I have installed Tex to '/usr/local/teTex'

'export PATH=${PATH}:/usr/local/teTex/bin:~/bin:/sw/bin'

Would this be right? Does it need '.bash_profile' before it?

I am learning a lot but am not sure about these things.

George
