Subject: Re: faxing

I have 4 lines into a digium zaptel card. However, we just use one of them for faxing. When you call a plain fax machine it usually answers with the beeping noise. I guess since Asterisk senses whether it's a voice call or a fax what I really need to do to test it is try to fax it from another machine/line and see how that goes. I had people complain that our fax wasn't working so I reverted back to my machine. I'll try to test more and figure out what exactly is going on.

Can you post the details of your setup ( Zaptel, Single line, or DID )

a fax sucessfully recieved or sent ,  it just dies after a 1/4 page or so.

As far as the tone goes,  the calling FAX machine is supposed to send
the CNG
tone,  and the recieving FAX is supposed to answer silently and listen
for the tone.
After detecting the CNG tone it *may* send a CED tone if in Automatic mode.

See:   http://telecom.tbi.net/fax-call.htm

So you could possibly send the CED tone, but you definitely don't want the
beeping CNG tone on the answering fax line..

Many All-in-one HP Fax machines pass the call through the the answering
machine or
house phones if there is no CNG tone,  so Asterisk is working just the
same way.

Why would people be calling your Fax line from a normal phone anyway
?    Tell them
to call from their Fax machine.
