Poll on the future of the OpenH323 project: msg#00287telephony.openh323.general
Dear all, While the company behind OpenH323.org is very kind to host this mailing list, I must say that not much has been done in terms of presenting an up-to-date website, maintaining and contributing code to the CVS (@ SourceForge) over the past 2 years. Worse, I believe that many people erred and went away in disgust before realizing that OpenH323 @ SourceForge existed. And obviously some were discouraged from helping with the OpenH323.org website and other tasks by the conditions put forward. You should know my frustration about the whole affair from countless emails last week and back in June 2004. While I recognize Craig's efforts, there is only so much he can do. And I always prefer solving a problem rather than work around it. So, is there something we can do beside just sitting in shock? Personally, I would favour a new site @ SourceForge to host the mailing list, website and CVS together. This would be a minimum change/pain, since CVS is already there @ SourceForge, and the website is inexistant (beside linking to the OpenH323.org dinosaur). I am sure that anyone who ever considered contributing to the OpenH323 project will find in the free services offered by SourceForge all what is needed, including the world wide availability that has benefited countless other international projects. The same contributors, the same quality code, and more people that can take part in making this project a success. If things like CVS/emails can be setup overnight, it may take a little while to round the angles. Still, I rather take the chance than just continue the same old thing for who knows how long. Now, here is the interesting part: Changes don't happen because I or anyone else says so. Let your voice be heard! OpenH323 is a collaborative endeavour, and I wish that all say where they want to take it, and how they think we can make it happen. Please email this mailing list (*) regarding the future of OpenH323 (and feel free to explain why): 1) Open a new project @ SourceForge 2) Not do anything 3) Other option (please specify) (*) If you are concerned about your privacy, please email me instead. You should Cc: whoever else you want to know about this. This is the chance of a healthy debate. Hopefully you will find the time and motivation to drop your 2 cents and more. Best regards, Guilhem. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Easier than ever with enhanced search.
