Cross-compiling on T2 and pkgsrc

Hello T2 developers,

Cross-compiling functionality is a goal that the pkgsrc project has in 
common with T2.  It would be great if you could share your experience and 
know-how with the developers of pkgsrc.

Why does cross-compiling work so well on T2 and how do you achieve this? 
One very big problem is Perl, as pkgsrc developer Joerg Sonnenberger 
currently stated on the mailing list:
