Building of Generic Embedded fails at building cpio

Hello,

i am trying to build the target "Generic Embedded" with dietlibc. 
The system i am using to build is a debian stable. The target "Generic"
with minimalistic package selection build without any problem. 

The build breaks at this point:

== 20:22:34 =[1]=> Building archiver/cpio [2.9 8.0-trunk].
-> Preparing configuration to build this package with dietlibc
(statically).
...
== 10/30/07 20:23:49 =[1]=> Aborted building package cpio.

It is possible that this is pebkac. But, as i did not change
any setting, beside the target and the libc, i think it is supposed to
compile :-)

Are there any pointers for me, where to look? Or is there any interest
in the log files?
