Right now, the system is compiling stage 5 glibc. It > takes a lot of time on my hardware. Hm. > BTW, what about the playstation3 as a compile station? Did you test it? We have a PS3 in our office, brought for the sole purpose to bring PS3 support to T2. However as we are so busy right now we have not yet finalized it. PS3 is not so impressive as Linux desktop / workstation hardware, mostly due to the limited RAM: it only has 256MB system RAM and another 256MB for the GFX chip. As accessing the GFX (NVidia RSX) RAM from the host CPU is kinda slow the graphic RAM can not used as additional RAM, and even as SWAP is said to be slower than accessing the hard-disk :-((( The graphic is just an unaccellerated frame-buffer driver, as the "Other OS" (Linux) is running in a hypervisor and has no direct access to the hardware. The hypervisor does not yet allow to access the NVidia based graphic chip, and thus only allows pushing pre-rendered pixels to the frame-buffer ... But I heared just yesterday that people employed by Sony are working to exporting more of the graphic chip to the "Other OS" (read Linux). But even if you have more powerful graphic, for normal use the 256MB RAM really are a little limitted.
