Gcc-4.2 and tiny GlibC update imminent: msg#00013

Subject: Gcc-4.2 and tiny GlibC update imminent

Hi all,

we are about to prepare for a stable 7.0 branch with a Alpha release
as soon as possible, to keep out release schedule which lists 7.0.0
this summer.

As the 6.0 series comes with gcc-4.1 and glibc-20051128 (nearly 2.5
just that Mr. Drepper releases tarballs soo late, ...) we had to wait
slightly for gcc-4.2 release wich is imminent, now. I'm right now testing
an local update to gcc-4.2.0-rc3 and glibc-2.5 and so far only had
to fix perl (which is already committed, and was related to their custom
dependency rule generator script anyway, ...).

So far the x86 (32bit) live build looks rather good, qt and ExactImage
as well as arts already built fine. When the whole desktop-live built
thru and works, I'll commit the updates to open the regression hunting
season for the 7.0 branch around LinuxTag and the final 7.0.0
release in July.

Thanks for attention - yours,
