[RFC] branches/6.0 kernel "downdate": msg#00018

Subject: [RFC] branches/6.0 kernel "downdate"

Hi all,

as you might have noticed, Adrian Bunk is doing and fantastic job
security and regression patching 2.6.16. Nowadays he arrived at
2.6.16.46!(!!).

Unfortunatly his "very-stable" series was started after we already had
2.6.17 in the 6.0 branch. As 6.0 really is about security and stability
and we soon will have a 7.0 branch with the 6.0 series receiving
even less feature updates beeing all about security and bugs.

I think in this context "a minor" downdate from 2.6.17.14 to 2.6.16.46
(soon .47) would give us a quite well done stable kernel "just for free".

What do you think?
