Yes sure, works fine. The biggest problem when you compile this yourself is to
get the cross compiler, kernel and all the non-trival packages built right
(autoconf/libtool is quite a problem in this case). T2 greatly helps in this
area - it can cross build X and co.

We do not yet have GPE/Qtopia packages, but Susan started those and they will
show up in SVN approximately at the end of this month.

I can not comment about Qtopia too much, but we created quite some different
embedded systems with just a frame-buffer - but usually we used E17/Evas
based GUIs on these systems (or they where that embedded to have no GUI at
all - just web based management).

PS: The T2 psion target run with X on FB on this very low-end devices already
about 2 years ago:
