Dear T2 users,
I?m a regular T2 users and I can see the T2 popularity is increasing
slowly but surely. This is great news but some of the T2 communication
tools are not as good as the T2 SDE ;)
I?m mainly talking about the website. As far as I know, the website is
made of 2 parts, a basic static HTML + the addition of the TRAC SVN
interface.
I?m deeply convicted T2 need a good website to attract people and provide
them a nice environment where they feel they did a good Linux distro
choice. Attract people got multiple advantages like potential donation or
great code contributors. But it also generates some work like answer
questions? But this part can be done by regular users as soon the critical
mass of users will be reach.
The basic solution for a project like T2 is a website where people can
share feedback and find help. T2 looks more like a bunch of scripts and if
you know how to use it, that?s perfect, if not, it will harder to setup
his own target even after read the handbook.
That?s why I purpose to get a CMS like [Joomla!/Typo3/SPIP/ whatever you
like] and setup modules around it:
# News component: where several people can post news, maybe in 2 parts,
one directly oriented to T2 released, one for other features. The news
should be also posted at t2@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx for example.
# Handbook: based on a wiki. The wiki handbook with restricted access
should be enough accurate to export it to a printable version
# Tutorial/How-To called HowT2? ;) Place to share our experience by
building our own t2 target for example, or install a couple of extra
packages. The target is not too replace good tutorials available on
Internet, but specify difference inside T2 who can sometimes stress
newbies ;) Maybe share ?Wiki Target Distro? It could be a regular Wiki
page with some ?pkgsel? done, validated, tested by users. We could find
high tuned Graphic oriented pkgsel, fined tuned t2 for a NAS/Filer, for a
Web server, for a simple home utilisation? A new user will just have to
download the ?pkgsel?, setup his configuration, download & compile his T2
more easily.
# Bug tracker: already available on TRAC
# Forum: could be next to the Mailing list, for heavy discussion future
orientation, etc? Surely not the biggest part of the website.
# A monthly newsletter describing manifestation around T2, improvement or
bug fixes of the month. This should be posted at the same time on the ML.
# FAQ: answers oriented mainly for troubles during the target compilation
or so.
# File Search: provide a form to find what packages provide a specific file.
What do you think about this idea? Who is interested by work on this
project with me?
Thanks by advance,
Johan
