Subject: RE: TWS migration

Straight from the IBM site:   IBM TWS v. 8.2 Planning and Installation Guide (PDF)        We've done the move previously from 7.0 to 8.1 with no problem.

Problem
How to migrate an IBM Tivoli Workload Scheduler (TWS) engine from an older version to a newer version?

Solution
The following instructions for migrating from earlier versions of TWS/Maestro to newer versions are general in nature and not intended to be applicable to a nonstandard or highly specialized environment. It is urged that services of a Tivoli Professional Services engineer be contracted should migrating assistance in a specialized environment be required.

1. Make a backup of the current master. In the backup, include:

$MAESTROHOME
$MAESTROHOME/../unison
/usr/unison (UNIX only)

2. Dump each of the databases to flat, ASCII text files. Run the following commands:

composer create cal.txt from calendars
composer create cpus.txt from cpu=@
composer create jobs.txt from jobs=@#@
composer create parms.txt from parms
composer create prompts.txt from prompts
composer create resources.txt from resources
composer create sched.txt from sched=@#@
composer create users.txt from users=@#@

3. Verify that each of the text files of the databases are complete.

4. Make a copy of the Security file:

Dumpsec > mysec

5. Copy all the files that were created to a safe place.

6. On UNIX only remove:

$MAESTROHOME
$MAESTROHOME/../unison
/usr/unison (6.x only)

7. On Windows, it is not required to uninstall the previous version of TWS/Maestro, however, the upgrade must be executed by the same user ID that ran the original installation.

8. Install New TWS engine:

On UNIX only run:

/bin/sh customize -new -thiscpu (cpuname) -master (cpuname)
-uname ( if not maestro)

Consult the installation guide for other, potentially important variables for the "customize" command.

9. Once installed, retrieve the saved database flatfiles to the maestrohome/mozart directory and incorporate that data into new databases:

composer replace cal.txt
composer add cpus.txt
composer add jobs.txt
composer modify parms.txt
composer modify prompts.txt
composer modify resources.txt
composer add sched.txt
composer add users.txt
makesec mysec
composer add file.txt for each file created.

NOTES:
  • All Windows users’ passwords must be retyped before repopulating the new database.
  • You must have ADD and MODIFY access in the TWS Security file for new and existing objects.

10. Start Netman:

$StartUp

11. Run Jnextday (when ready)

Subject: [tme10] TWS migration

Hi list,

I have a TWS 7.0 environment up and running ok. I want to migrate everything to 8.2 version. However, the MDM will not be upgraded as the version 8.2 will be installed on a new machine (a more powerful one).

My question is; after installing the Framework and TWS 8.2 MDM at the new box (AIX 5.2.0.0), what files should I copy from the old TWS server so I can have the entire environment (JOBs, Schedules, Configuration files, Users, permissions, etc.) running on this new box ? The entire mozart directory ... anything else ?

Please advise.

Thank you.

Mario
