That's a good point. I can probably have the production server mount the
backups server temporarily when needed, and then unmount it. For that
matter, I could also have the backup server mount the production server
only while it's doing a backup.

I assume $? means the same in Bash as it does in Perl ($CHILD_ERROR) ?
