If you currently have link_dest turned on, I would suggest you try
an experiment where you turn off link_dest and see what happens
over a week or two. This should stop the "roll-back" of the
whole backup from happening.

Another possibility is to enable sync_first. But this would mean
changing the way you invoke rsnapshot (and also requires you to
have rsnapshot >= 1.2.9). See the rsnapshot man page for details
if you are interested.

I'm assuming you are happy to live with loss of the partial file being
transferred at the time the connection is lost. If not, you can try
using --partial or --partial-dir, but that can have its own problems
(especially where you are tranferring a large file which already
exists but is mostly the same, like a mailbox).
