We use cwrsync (Cygwin+Rsync) to backup Windows Servers (NTFS) to Linux.
Have a look at the rsnapshot logs though, there are some problems when
backing up opened files and files with very long names.

Use tune2fs -c and/or -i to disable forced fsck checks. Look at -m while
you're there if you have your backups on a dedicated partition ex.
/backup to regain about 5% of reserved space.

We've started using XFS on our backup servers a few weeks ago after
having issues with Ext3. Also we found quota support in XFS to be
better suited for > 1TB file systems (we use quota to enforce per user
backup limit). quotacheck on an Ext3 partition takes forever.
