archiving errors: msg#00170

Subject: archiving errors

I've been trying to figure out the backuppc archiving system. So I created a
file called archives-disk.pl in the same directory as the other host config
files. The only contents of the file are:
$Conf{XferMethod} = 'archive';

I also added this line to the hosts file:
archives-disk 0 chrome backuppc

After reloading the backuppc configuration, I go to the 'archives-disk'
host, click on the button to 'Start Archive', choose which host I want to
archive, leave the settings at their defaults:
Archive Location/Device: /var/lib/backuppc/archive
Compression: gzip
Percentage of Parity Data: 0
Split output into: 0

and when I then click on the 'Start the Archive' button, I get this error:
Error: Can't open/create ${EscHTML("$TopDir/pc/$hostDest/$reqFileName")}

*However*, it *did* work once before. I had called the host and file
'localhost-archive' (since the documentation isn't clear on exactly how this
should be set up); and had the cruft of the default debian localhost.pl file
in my localhost-archive.pl file (only changing the XferMethod). With that
setup, it failed the first time, I tried it again with a different host to
archive, and it succeeded!

so I know it *can* work, and that the problem shouldn't be with the
existence or absence of a directory. Somehow it breaks anyway.

I'll look into this a bit more, and see if I can localize the problem more.

Also, how does one schedule an archive with cron? Or isn't it possible, and
one needs to do it with Mark Montgomery's script?
