I am not sure if this is relevant in your case, but the last line of your
post reminded me of a problem I had at one point.

You mention below that you will have to contact their ISP - is the PC you
are backing up remote over a broadband connection? Does the client PC or
their router get its' IP address from the ISP's DHCP server? What is the
interval the ISP drops the connection and hands out a new IP address?
