I could be wrong, but it sound like BackupPC is dying on a specific
file. Take a look at the transfer log (the error only version should be
okay). The very last file BackupPC was working on before it died should
be listed. Compare it to the other failed backups; if they're the same,
you have part of your answer.

The next task would be to figure out why BackupPC doesn't like that
file.
