Hi folks,

I am curious about the following error:
"Got fatal error during xfer (aborted by signal=ALRM)"

It happened using rsync over ssh between two linux boxes backing up two locations, probably around 20GB each. It seemed to have done the first location fine but when it came to the second one it threw this error and stopped (current file it was working on seemed to be 150MB)

I tried the process again using just the area where the problem occurred to see if it was location specific (i.e. mangled file of some sort) but it worked fine. I am in the process of trying to reproduce the error with rsync logging turned up so in the mean time wondered what an "ALRM" error was and why it might be generated ?

Never mind - found it.

Was thinking that $Conf{ClientTimeout} referred to a single file operation it didn't occur to me that the entire transfer was a single operation. My fault for not reading the comments closely.
