As a most of us utilize and rely on snort for large environments, I
would certainly hope that these types of issues would be disclosed and

The Snort Team only supports STABLE (2.3.x now) and development
versions (CURRENT and 2.4.x). If issues that exist in 2.2 also exist
in 2.3, they will be addressed in 2.3+ branches.
