Choosing A Webhost:
A web hosting service is a type of Internet hosting service that allows individuals and organizations to provide their own website accessible via the World Wide Web. Web hosts are companies that provide space on a server they own for use by their clients as well as providing Internet connectivity, typically in a data center. Web hosts can also provide data center space and connectivity to the Internet for servers they do not own to be located in their data center, called colocation. more...

Compile problems on Solaris 8: msg#00009

Subject: Compile problems on Solaris 8

I've seen this topic many times in the list archives, and even more often on
the snort-users list archives. Haven't seen a good answer to the problem yet.

I'm running Solaris 8 on a SPARC box. MySQL 4 (I did see a comment that maybe
Barnyard doesn't compile against MySQL 4 libraries...but nothing definite.)

Configure options are:
.../configure --prefix=/opt/local/barnyard-0.2.0 --enable-mysql
--with-mysql-includes=/opt/csw/mysql4/include/mysql
--with-mysql-libraries=/opt/csw/mysql4/lib/mysql

Configure completes just fine.

The make fails:
-g -O2 -Wall -lnsl -L/opt/csw/mysql4/lib/mysql -o barnyard barnyard.o
mstring.o strlcatu.o strlcpyu.o util.o spool.o sid.o debug.o
classification.o CommandLineArgs.o ConfigFile.o ProgVars.o
output-plugins/libop.a input-plugins/libdp.a -lsocket -lz -lssl -lmysqlclient

symbol in file
hstrerror output-plugins/libop.a(op_alert_syslog2...o)
inet_aton output-plugins/libop.a(op_alert_syslog2...o)
ld: fatal: Symbol referencing errors. No output written to barnyard

I'm using the Blastwave gcc2 install. Not the Sunfreeware version, which was
reported to cause "lots of problems".

Does anyone know...is it definite that Barnyard does or does not support MySQL
4? If not, is there a timeline for when it will? Is there any truth to the
idea that the SunFreeware gcc package install causes problems? Is the
Blastwave gcc2 replacement any better?

Thanks for your help!
