Man, that's horrid.  Not only did I have to edit the configure.in script, I 
had to create sysmlinks from autoheader257 to autoheader and autoconf257 to 
autoconf before it would build.

Putting all that in a port is going to be real fun.  Are the developers 
aware of these problems?  Are they going to be fixed?  Or will I have to do 
all this in the Makefile for the port?  {{{shudder}}}
