RE: Barnyard over SSL: msg#00000security.ids.snort.barnyard.user
Hmmm..."'curiouser and curioser,' said Alice"...this lends itself to a question, then. We have a snort sensor running FreeBSD 4.10 and mysql-standard-4.0.20. The boss wants us to implement barnyard-0.2.0 on this box. However, it appears this will not work, given the version of MySQL we presently use and from what you gentlemen are saying. Is this, indeed, correct? -----Original Message----- From: barnyard-users-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:barnyard-users-admin@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx]On Behalf Of Andrew R. I have both MySQL 3.23.58 and 4.0.18 source trees here. The 3.23.58 source has a distinct COPYING.LIB file for the library licensing that indicates it is LGPL. This is removed from the 4.0 source tree. Also, from the 3.23 change log: Changes in release 3.23.19 -------------------------- * Changed copyright for all files to `GPL' for the server code and utilities and to LGPL for the client libraries. So at least at one point there was an explicit decision to have the libraries under the LGPL. Other statements aside, these two facts lead me to believe that the client libraries are covered by the LGPL and can continue to be linked in with Barnyard. Regardless, linking against 4.0 libraries is still explicitly not allowed. The exceptions that were added to 4.0 were to get around the more restrictive licensing for the client libraries. -A ------------------------------------------------------- This Newsletter Sponsored by: Macrovision For reliable Linux application installations, use the industry's leading setup authoring tool, InstallShield X.
