PhD Scholarship Available
The International NRW Graduate School in Bioinformatics and Genome
Research at the University of Bielefeld (Germany) seeks applications
for a
Ph.D. student scholarship
in Bioinformatics Algorithms on Vector Computers
sponsored by NEC High Performance Computing Europe GmbH.
The aim of the scholarship is the development of new algorithms in
bioinformatics as well as the evaluation of existing ones with respect
to their portability to vector computers. The successful candidate will
be based in Bielefeld and will be able to benefit from the
interdisciplinary and international nature of the Graduate School, which
currently hosts 21 PhD students and a faculty from bioinformatics,
mathematics, genome research, and chemistry. All courses are being taught
in English.
The fully-paid scholarship (1.533,88 Euro/month, tax-free) is available
for up to three years, starting October 1, 2003. Applicants should have
a B.S., M.S. or Diploma degree in computer science, mathematics, or a
related area with grades significantly above average. Prior experience
in Parallel Computing and/or Bioinformatics will be considered an
advantage. Deadline for applications is June 24, 2003.
For more information on the Graduate School, and on details of the
application procedure, see
http://www.cebitec.uni-bielefeld.de/GradSchool
or contact
admissions@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
Electronic application is possible by sending the requested documents
as email attachments to the above address.

IZS 2004 - Call for Papers
CALL FOR PAPERS
The 2004 International Zurich Seminar on Communications (IZS)
(http://www.izs2004.ethz.ch) will be held at ETH Zurich, Switzerland,
from Wednesday, Feb. 18, through Friday, Feb. 20, 2004.
Original technical contributions are solicited on topics including:
Access:
- Wide area mobile radio
- Wireless local area networks
- Wireless local loops
- xDSL and cable modem technologies
Transmission:
- Channel modeling
- Applied information theory
- Coding and modulation
- Joint detection, decoding, and ... (you name it)
- MIMO wireless and space-time coding
- Ultra wide band
- Antenna design
- Fundamental hardware issues
Networking:
- Algorithms, protocols, and systems for routing and switching
- Ad-hoc and peer-to-peer networking of all scales
- High-mobility architectures and protocols
- Next-generation internet
- Optical networks
- Quality of service
- Fault-tolerance and reliability
- Security
As a novelty in 2004, roughly half the contributions will be invited.
Due to its traditional format with at most two parallel sessions, the
IZS is an ideal opportunity to learn from, and to communicate to,
leading experts in areas beyond one's own speciality. All papers
should therefore be presented with this wide audience in mind.
Papers will be reviewed on the basis of a manuscript (not exceeding
6 pages) of sufficient detail to permit reasonable evaluation.
Authors of accepted papers will be asked to produce a manuscript not
exceeding 4 pages that will be published in the Proceedings. All
accepted papers will be allowed twenty minutes for presentation.
The deadline for submissions is
September 15, 2003.
Detailed instructions for the submission of papers, as well as
information on the technical program, special events, accomodation,
etc., will be posted on the IZS 2004 web site:
http://www.izs2004.ethz.ch.
We look forward to seeing you at IZS!

CTW 2003: Special Issue DAM
Following the tradition of previous workshops, a special issue of Discrete
Applied Mathematics will be prepared in connection with the recent
2nd Cologne/Twente Workshop on Graphs and Combinatorial Optimization
(http://www.math.utwente.nl/~ctw)
All interested researchers are invited to contribute to this special volume.
The topics should relate to the central themes of the workshop (graphs,
combinatorial optimization and the design and analysis of algorithms) but are
not necessarily restricted to the presentations at the workshop. Theoretical
and applied work is equally welcome.
All articles will be thoroughly refereed according to the standards of
Discrete Applied Mathematics.
Submission deadline is:
15 September, 2003
You may send your submission electronically (ps-file, pdf-file) to the address
ctw@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
If an electronical submission is not possible, please send a hardcopy to
the postal address:
